US school official formally resigns after anti-gay rant
Clint McCance, the US school district official who had to apologise last week for an anti-gay rant on his Facebook page, has officially resigned.
In the posting, he said that “queers” and “fags” should kill themselves and that he would disown his children if they were gay.
Mr McCance, who is the vice-president of the Midland school district in Arkansas, said last week he was sorry for his “hurtful” remarks and that he would hand in his resignation.
Speaking to Anderson Cooper on his 360 CNN programme, he said: “My posts I made that were very hurtful, very ignorant in nature. Looking back on it right now and getting to, you know, scrutinise my own self and what I did. It’s horrible. And what I wrote was horrible.”
According to CNN, he resigned today.
Midland School District Superintendent Dean Stanley told the broadcaster that the board had unanimously voted to accept Mr McCance’s resignation.
