GLAAD nominates most gay-friendly shows and films
The American group Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has nominated the most LGBT-friendly films, performers and TV shows of the last year.
The GLAAD awards, now in their 22nd year, recognise the most fair and balanced portrayals of LGBT people in the media.
Nominated films include The Kids Are Alright, I Love You Phillip Morris, Burlesque and The Girl Who Played With Fire.
Honoured artists include Antony and the Johnsons, Kele Okereke and Chely Wright.
Glee is up for a gong for best TV comedy series, along with Modern Family and Nurse Jackie.
GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said: “This year’s nominees represent some of the images and stories at the root of the growing acceptance of our community and support for our equality.
“They also have created a benchmark for inclusion of our community that other media outlets should look to.
“As GLAAD celebrates 25 years of working with the media, we are proud to recognise this year’s nominees, and we challenge the industry to share more stories that reflect the diversity of our community and the challenges that gay and transgender people face.”
The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in New York on March 19th at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and in San Francisco on May 14th at San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Details of a further ceremony in Los Angeles will be announced.
