A man was jailed for six years after he was found guilty of raping a lesbian at a wedding reception.

Michael Hughes, 23, invited the victim to see how luxurious his hotel room was but attacked her, the Gloucestershire Echo reports.

Both were guests at a reception at the Clearwell Castle wedding venue in Gloucestershire.

Hughes, of Cirencester, was said to have been drunk and high on cocaine.

The woman was described as “vulnerable” with health problem, Gloucester crown court was told. The jury heard she had been devastated by the attack.

Hughes denied rape and claimed that she had consented to sex.

After he was convicted, the court heard he had been arrested for alleged sexual assault in 2005.

He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
