Ricky Martin to host Obama fundraiser
The pop singer Ricky Martin, who came out as gay two years ago, has said that he will host a fundraising event for US President Barack Obama over his support for LGBT rights.
The event, which will take place in May, will be organised by the LGBT Leadership Council and the Futuro Fund, it has been reported.
Media reports quote him as saying he was proud to support Mr Obama. He said: “I believe Barack Obama has shown a deep conviction to help those most in need, even if their voices are not always the ones heard the loudest in Washington.”
The singer wants Mr Obama to win a second term, he said, for the president “has been an exceptionally strong advocate for the Latino and LGBT communities,” adding, “I believe the President has put the United States back on the right path and has earned the opportunity to finish the critical work that he has started.”
