San Francisco: Gay history museum vandalised following baseball game

San Francisco’s GLBT History Museum has reopened after it was damaged earlier in the week.

Its windows were smashed during chaos that erupted after the San Francisco Giants won the World Series on Sunday.

A large board now covers the front window, which was smashed during the early hours of Monday.

Although no collections were stolen from the museum, the operator says there is not enough money to make the needed repairs, and is hoping that donations will be made by some of the city’s kind-hearted residents.

The museum maintains one of the largest archives of LGBT history in the United States.

It also contains the personal effects of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, who was assassinated in 1978.

They were donated by Milk’s partner, Scott Smith, who died from an AIDS-related illness in 1995, at the age of 46.
