Olympic gymnast Louis Smith: ‘I’m a bit of a gay icon’
Since taking to the floor on Strictly Come Dancing Olympic gymnast Louis Smith says he’s become a gay icon.
Smith, 23, who won silver on the Pommel Horse at this year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, says he’s now receiving greater attention from woman and men due to his participation in the BBC’s celebrity dance show.
Louis impressed Strictly’s judges on Saturday night with his doctors and nurses themed Charlston which saw him beat Denise Van Outen into third place.
The athlete, who is straight, claims his stint on the show has given him a whole new legion of male fans.
“I get lots of attention from females as well as males,” Smith told the Mirror. “It’s a bit strange. Apparently I’m a bit of a gay icon.”
He added: “I’d go topless for Attitude magazine. I’m not a shy guy when it comes to getting your kit off and taking pictures. I know I’m not fat and won’t look offensive, so it’s fine.”
“I’ve had some interest from an underwear company. But I won’t come too cheap.”
