Gary Lucy to reprise gay banker role in Eastenders

Actor Gary Lucy is to return to the cast of Eastenders later this year, after impressing bosses with his performance as gay banker Danny Pennant in September. He will be the soap’s only gay character.

The actor impressed the BBC One bosses, and has been offerde the opportunity to bring his character back to Albert Square on an ongoing basis.

Mr Lucy said: “I’m extremely excited to be joining such a fantastic show – one which my family are huge fans of and I grew up watching.

“I enjoyed the little taster last September and am looking forward to exploring my character further.”

Those in charge at Eastenders have said they have big things planned for the character, when he returns to the soap later this year, reports the List.

Executive producer Lorraine Newman said: “We are delighted to reveal that Gary Lucy will be returning to ‘EastEnders’.

“He clearly felt at home on the show and his portrayal of Danny Pennant left us with an intriguing character to explore. It was only a matter of time before he returned.

“Danny’s stories will see him cross paths with some of our best-loved characters. I am sure the audience will relish the fact that the complex nature of this character means nothing is ever simple.”

EastEnders cast members Marc Elliott and John Partridge, who played gay couple Syed Masood and Christian Clarke, were written out of the BBC One soap afteer Marc Elliott decided to leave the long-running show. This will make Danny the only gay character on the programme.

John Partridge subsequently said he wants more “hot new gays” in EastEnders to ensure the “pink flag” is flown.
