Nick Grimshaw, Radio 1’s breakfast show presenter, says he was initially rejected by the station for work experience, and admits he would like to have children one day.

The gay DJ took over the BBC Radio 1 breakfast slot from Chris Moyles last September.

Speaking to the Sun newspaper, Grimshaw, 28, said when he first applied for work experience, Radio 1 told him he wasn’t right for them: “My first ever rejection was from Radio 1, funnily enough. I wrote to ask for work experience and they wrote me a letter saying no. I remember being so sad, I moped around the house for ages.”

Grimshaw, who is currently single, also said he would love to have children one day.

He said: “I’d like to have a big house with loads of kids in it.

“I reckon I’d like three, because any more than three you have to get a weird car don’t you?

“You have to get a van. And I don’t want a van.”

Grimshaw’s new TV panel show ‘Sweat The Small Stuff’ starts tonight at 10pm on BBC Three.
