Helen Mirren laughs off drummer rant by wearing t-shirt in support of gay festival
Helen Mirren has poked fun at her rant at a group of drummers who were promoting a gay festival by wearing a custom made t-shirt in support of the event.
Various newspapers and social media reports have claimed slight variations on what she said, although Dame Helen admitted to using language that was more in keeping with Prince Philip than with the monarch.
“I was very upset, I was very cross. I had just spent five, 10 minutes on stage trying to allow the audience to hear what I was saying which was sort of impossible. I was steaming,” she said to Sky News.
“If they make the same noise I would say the same again,” she added.
“I was more Duke of Edinburgh than the Queen. Her Majesty would never say anything like that.”
The 67-year-old actress was keen to make humour from the drama on Monday, after being snapped wearing a custom made ‘As One in the Park’ t-shirt.
The event’s name, venue and date were printed in large black letters, and on the back she drew a drum with the caption: “Yes please, just not outside the theatre.”
As One in the Park takes place in Victoria Park this month, featuring Rita Ora, Boy George and Katy B.
