Friend of George Michael slams car accident suicide rumours as ‘absurd’
One of George Michael’s closest friends has blasted reports suggesting the star threw himself out of a moving car at 70mph last week in a bid to end his own life.
The gay singer is still recovering in hospital after suffering serious cuts and bruises from the accident on the M1 while the driver of the vehicle was treated for serious head injuries.
Witnesses said the 49-year-old pop icon narrowly avoided being struck by oncoming traffic.
A friend of the singer told the Mirror: “There is no mystery – he was just trying to shut the door. George has been perfectly happy and is in a great place. To insinuate that he threw himself out of the car is absurd.”
The source added that the star had been happily immersed in his music, explaining: “George has been writing a new album and is really pleased with what he’s done so far.”
Police are still investigating last Thursday’s accident and say that they are yet to speak to the singer.
George was forced to cancel a string of concert dates last year after suffering from pneumonia before cancelling more gigs while he dealt with anxiety.
