One Love unique same-sex Wedding Show to open in London this weekend
A unique gay and lesbian wedding show is opening in the heart of London this weekend, aimed at creative, expressive and design-led same-sex couples.
Absolut are making the VIP night cocktails, the TestostaTones will be serenading the crowds with Doo Wop, the Wedding Smashers will be turning up the volume with a selection of the coolest tunes from the 60s to right now and Miss Betty Darling will be providing the striptease cabaret. And that’s just the entertainment.
The One Love Wedding Show, the unique, Gay & Lesbian and inspirational wedding event with an open mind and an open heart, is launching with a bang on 19 and 20 October and The Hospital Club in Covent Garden.
70 exhibitors will fill the ground and first floor of the private members club, providing style, fashion and design led couples with beautiful products and services to help them get chic and creative with their big day. A celebratory feel is the tone of the weekend, with same- sex marriage finally becoming law in England and Wales last July, on the day that the wedding fair launched by a wonderful twist of fate.
Exhibitors include an actual London Morgan car on the ground floor gallery, bespoke, couture and vintage wedding gowns, tailors that make suits for both men and women, grooms style consultants that are nipping over from Saville Row, honeymoon companies that have the insider knowledge of the best getaways for discerning gay couples, an Icelandic wedding destinations company (one of the hippest places in the word right now), up and coming designer-makers and their bridal accessories, bow ties and handkerchiefs in vintage fabrics, florists that use mid century ceramics rather than oasis blocks on mirrored bases (shudder), crafters who allow you to make your own wedding rings, cake makers who create edible works of art inspired by contemporary design rather than silver bells and edgey, editorial photographers who specialise in civil ceremonies and now of course same-sex wedding documentary style imagery.
In March 2013 Sara Smyth from eclectic, chic and unique bridal boutique ruby+diva approached Becky Hoh-Hale from design and trend led A Most Curious Wedding Fair with the idea of joining forces to create the coolest gay wedding fair on the block. And now, seven months later, it is here. First and foremost for this show, Sara and Rebecca’s criteria was that every single supplier was whole heartedly in support of gay and lesbian marriage and would embrace and contribute to the open minded atmosphere of the event, eliminating any awkwardness or negativity that a same sex couple might be worried they may experience at a conventional wedding show. There are many exhibitors who offer specific products for gay and lesbian couples, but some are simply the coolest wedding suppliers we could find that came to us moved and ethused by the need for a same sex marriage to be legally recognised and in turn, a cool and stylish same-sex wedding event.

The name comes from our belief that there is just ONE love, there are plenty of different types and combinations but they create and are the very same thing between two people. And that is always worth celebrating. That is what this show will celebrate. And to this end there will be fashion ‘happenings’ that question the idea of gay stereotypes and challenge the idea of ‘norms’ in the world of love and identity all the while providing the beautiful wedding fashion style inspiration.
You need to be part of this. It’s been a long time coming. It’s important.
