Gay Game of Thrones star: I’m happy to help fight stereotypes
A gay Game of Thrones actor has said he’s happy to have helped change some people’s perceptions by coming out.
Kristian Nairn, who plays fan favourite Hodor on the series, told People that he was shocked how much coverage he had received after coming out this month.
He said: “It’s been everywhere, People, CNN, all the way down to the little local paper in Belfast. I don’t want to be a figurehead or anything, but if I can help one person, I’ll be happy.”
Towering at 6 foot 10 inches (2.08m), the actor also said he was also happy to help break stereotypes.
He said: “Some people say I don’t look like the typical gay person, whatever that means.
“Obviously there’s so many different types of gay people, but some people don’t know that. Some people think we all look and act a certain type of way. So people have thanked me for that.
“I don’t give a shit what the world thinks about me, I’ve got my mother and my family behind me, and most people have said lovely things!”
