US: Report reveals that same-sex marriage could bring $60 million to Virginia
A US report has suggested that the state of Virginia could generate an extra $60 million if it legalised same-sex marriage.
The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law estimated that around 7,000 same-sex couples would choose marry there within three years of a change in law.
Across those three years, it was also estimated that an extra $60 million (£35.5 million) in spending would be generated.
The report details that an increase in spending on wedding arrangements and by tourists could generate up to $3.2 million (£1.9 million) in state and local taxes.
