Precious star Gabourey Sidibe: I’ve always wanted to play a gay character
Precious star Gabourey Sidibe has said she was excited to play a lesbian in an upcoming film, because she ‘thought it would be fun’.
She told Out magazine, of her role in comedy Life Partners: “I just really wanted to play a lesbian, which I guess is sort of nerdy.
“My best friend in the entire world is a lesbian and I just thought it would be fun.”
“Once I showed up in this role, I realized actually how playing a lesbian is not different.
“It’s all about the story, and it’s the same thing. It’s the same as playing a straight person. But I really did like it, because this character got to be a little bit of a pimp.”
Joking about who she would pick to be life partners with in real life, she said: “Can I like have a harem of ladies?
“I would love to marry and be life partners with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I’d have to bring them together.”
The film, which stars Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this week, but a wider release has not yet been announced.
Sidibe apologised earlier this year, after making a transphobic joke on a chat show.
