US: Trans woman found murdered in Baltimore
A transgender woman has been found murdered in a field in Maryland.
Kandy Hall, 40, was found murdered on Tuesday according to police, who are appealing for help with the investigation.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Eric Kowalczyk, a police spokesman, is yet to reveal how the murder took place.
Kowalczyk said: “We need the public’s help trying to find out who is responsible for this.
“We don’t know how the homicide occurred yet. We’re waiting for the medical examiner to do the autopsy.”
“We’re aware of the concern that the transgender community has with working with law enforcement.
“We still want to do whatever we can to bring this case to a close.”
Activist Jacqueline Robarge said it was troubling how little information about the case had been made public, adding it was part of a pattern of violence.
She said: “Whatever information can be shared, to help people on the street understand how to keep themselves safe or contribute to a perpetrator being caught, I think that would be important.
“Just saying that someone was found is not sufficient if they have other details about a possible m.o.”
Hall was reportedly referred to by her birth name by officers, which Aaron Merki of the Free State Legal Project slammed as “very inappropriate”.
The police department held a special meeting with trans and LGB groups on Friday, to address concerns about the case.
