Video: Game of Thrones author cameos in ‘Gay of Thrones’ recap parody
Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has made a surprise cameo in the show’s long-running ‘Gay of Thrones’ parody.
Gay of Thrones, which is produced by Funny Or Die, follows a gay hairdresser, Jonathan Van Ness, explaining the latest episodes of the show to his clients.
Martin – who writes the book series on which the TV series is based – made a surprise appearance in the parody show following this week’s season finale.
At one point, he berates his grandson for saying “I thought this was a story about a Game of Thrones recap show, with an LGBT perspective. I don’t want to hear about kissing”.
He said: “I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, cos it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!”
The actor, who is 6 foot 10 inches tall (2.08m), later said: “Some people say I don’t look like the typical gay person, whatever that means.
“Obviously there’s so many different types of gay people, but some people don’t know that. Some people think we all look and act a certain type of way. So people have thanked me for that.
“I don’t want to be a figurehead or anything, but if I can help one person, I’ll be happy.”
