Sam Smith: I don’t want to be a spokesperson for gay people
Recently out singer Sam Smith has said that he is not trying to be a ‘spokesperson’ for the gay rights movement.
The Money on my Mind singer made the comments in an interview with Digital Spy.
He said of coming out: “People really just don’t give a s**t. The success in America is still happening even though I’ve talked about it.
“I’m not trying to be a spokesperson.
“It sounds awful of me, but I’m really just trying to live my life and write music about it. That’s what I do.
“I’m not trying to heal the world. From a young age I’ve always been like this, so it’s been normal.
“My family and friends have made it feel normal and I’m not going to stop that now.”
The singer, who came out in May prior to the release of his debut album, previously claimed that Grindr is “ruining” romance.
He also advised people not to make an “issue” of their sexuality if they want to be accepted.
He said: “I would say just be yourself. Don’t make it an issue. Let’s make it a normality.
“To make it equal, we need to act equal. Everyone just needs to focus on themselves as individuals and do what makes them happy, and be brave.”
