Stockholm to host European Same-Sex Dance Championship
Stockholm will play host to next year’s European Same-Sex Dance Championship.
The dance competition – open only to same-sex couples – will be held next summer from August 6 to August 8.
Hadass Armon, co-President of the European Same-Sex Dance Association said: “We are happy to announce EuroGames Stockholm 2015 as the official ESSDA European Championship next year.
“Dancers from all countries will have a magnificent competition as well a great overall programme in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. We feel confident that the arena, sport management and championship will be a great success and an event to remember.”
Jakob Jansson of EuroGames Stockholm said: “EuroGames Stockholm 2015 and the European Same-Sex Dance Championship will be one of the most magnificent happenings in the sport programme.
“Hundreds of participants get the chance to fight for the medals at Stockholmsmässan, the International trade fair in Stockholm and will be an eye catcher for the dancers as well as the spectators. Simply amazing.”
Dance categories at the event including Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slowfox, Quickstep, Cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Pasodoble, Jive, Ten Dance and Show Dance.
Earlier this year, the British Dance Council controversially attempted to stop same-sex dance couples from competing in mixed events.
The rule change – which was eventually shelved – attempted to define a dance partnership as “one man and one lady in all adult amateur and professional competitions and championships” unless stated otherwise.
