Republican who thinks ‘gays should be discriminated against’ elected in Colorado
A disgraced former Navy chaplain who claims that gay people deserve to be discriminated against has been elected in Colorado.
Right-wing Republican Gordon Klingenschmitt, who won a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives yesterday, proclaimed last year: “If your heart is full of corruption or sin or immorality – in this case, homosexuality – then you should be discriminated against.”
He has become known for his extreme anti-gay and transphobic outbursts, claiming last month: “Transgenders want your children. Liberals demand public access to rape your girls.”
He claimed earlier this year that gay soldiers would cause problems in the military by “taking breaks on the combat field to change diapers”, because their “treacherous sin” means they “lose control of their bowels”.
Despite his disgusting extremist views, Klingenschmitt – who genuinely believes trans people are possessed by demons and that gays are “worthy of death” – was elected by a landslide in District 15, polling nearly 70 percent of the vote, and thrashing his Democratic rival.
Klingenschmitt was thrown out of the Navy in 2006, by disobeying direct orders and wearing his uniform to right-wing protests.
He is also the host of the the ‘Pray in Jesus Name’ radio show, in which he regularly attacks LGBT individuals.
