Spain: Kiss-in after gay couple kicked out of Burger King
Protesters held a gay kiss-in at a Burger King in Madrid after a gay couple were kicked out for kissing.
Last month the couple, aged 18 and 19, were told to leave the fast food restaurant as families had complained they were setting a “bad example” to children.
“They said that their children didn’t have to see that,” one of the young men, who do not want to be named, told El Pais.
Other diners stood up for them and encouraged them not to leave.
“They told us not to move, that we had every right to be there,” he continued.
However, the security guard insisted, and they eventually left the restaurant to avoid any more trouble.
In response to the incident, a kiss-in protest was held two days ago in the Burger King. Same-sex couples gathered in the restaurant and kissed, to applause from the staff.
Burger King said that it was an “isolated incident.”
“The security guard had acted on his own initiative. We have a policy of zero tolerance toward any kind of discrimination, and, having learned of the facts, took immediate action to deal with the incident.”
