Rick Santorum wants to void same-sex marriages in all 50 states

Republican Presidential wannabe Rick Santorum has decided that same-sex marriage shouldn’t be left to the states after all, and wants to ban it everywhere.

Ahead of the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage, the Republican Party held the position that marriage laws should be left to the states to decide.

However, Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum – one of the most anti-gay voices in the race – has decided that he now quite likes federal interference in marriage… as long as it’s interference that he agrees with.

He claimed at an event at the Christian Science Monitor that a constitutional amendment should be introduced on a federal level, defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

He said: “I believe we need a national standard for marriage. I don’t think we can have a standard from one state to another on what marriage is.”

The politician claims it was a “mistake” to say the decision should be left to the states to decide, and he now wants to discriminate everywhere whether the states like it or not.

He said: “I argued that 10 years ago when others wanted to do that 10 years go. You can’t have a hodge-podge of marriage.

“One of the reasons the court decided the way they decided is because they recognized you couldn’t have different marriage laws in different states.

“It just causes… it just creates too much confusion out there.”

Santorum recently claimed that same-sex couples getting married in the US will “disrupt the foundation of the world”.
