Are people getting tired of Caitlyn Jenner? Ratings plummet for TV show
She has spent months as the most famous trans person in the world – but it looks like the world might finally be growing tired of Caitlyn Jenner.
The former Olympian and reality TV star announced her transition to female earlier this year – and has received huge media attention.
From an interview with Diane Sawyer to appearing on the cover of Vanity Fair, Jenner has had continuous publicity – but the ratings for her new documentary series might suggest her media bubble is beginning to burst.
16.9 million tuned in back in April for her Diane Sawyer interview, and last week’s episode of Jenner’s E! documentary series I Am Cait pulled in a promising 2.7 million viewers on the night – with a total audience of 7.7 million viewers.
However, ratings have plummeted for this week’s episode – with more than half the original deserting the series.
The second helping of the documentary series averaged just 1.3 million viewers – which is lower than any episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
The show had picked up praise for focussing on wider trans issues, and not just the star’s personal life.
While many expected the show to be all about Jenner’s personal journey, she also drew attention to eleven trans women who have been murdered in the US alone in 2015.
She said: “I feel bad that these, especially young people, are going through such a difficult time in their life. We don’t want people dying over this. We don’t want people murdered over this stuff.”
