Anti-gay clerk Kim Davis to be honoured with visit from Mike Huckabee in jail
The adamantly anti-gay Kentucky clerk, who remains in jail, is going to get a very special visit from presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee.
The former Arkansas Governor and Republican presidential hopeful will visit Kim Davis, the Rowan County clerk who was jailed last Thursday for contempt of court.
Davis ignored several court orders instructing her to stop discriminating and to issue marriage licences to same-sex couples.
She claimed her religious beliefs prevent her from doing so, and her lawyers have filed appeals in an attempt to free her from jail.
Huckabee, as well as visiting Davis privately, also plans to join protesters outside the prison where Davis is being held.
He says her religious beliefs should entitle her to deny marriage licences to gay and lesbian couples.
Found guilty of contempt of court, Kim Davis was remanded in custody by federal marshals last week.
The Rowan County clerk has continually ignored court orders instructing her to stop discriminating against gay couples.
She approached the US Supreme Court, asking for an order allowing her to continue turning away gay couples – the court declined.
