Boy George tells Voice audience: I slept with Prince
Boy George caused a furore on the set of The Voice, when he one-upped Paloma Faith’s name-dropping in a surprising style.
The Culture Club singer has taken over from Sir Tom Jones on the show, with Faith also joining to replace Rita Ora.
The pair were filming the audition stage for the upcoming series this week, before a live audience – when their on-stage banter began.
Speaking about their celebrity contacts with Will.i.am and Ricky Wilson, she said: “I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson.”
Paloma Faith hit back: “Well OK, if we’re throwing big soul names out there I’ve performed with Prince!”
According to the Sun, George then quipped: “Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince!”
A source on the production team told the newspaper: “We just couldn’t believe what he had come out with – and the guys in the gallery were beside themselves.
“The crowd went absolutely wild because they thought they had just witnessed a massive celebrity exclusive.
“The other judges thought it was brilliant, particularly Will.i.am. He kept coming up to Boy George and high-fiving him, which just set the crowd off again.
“Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them. After that Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn’t really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall.
“But as far as the crowd were concerned the cat was already out of the bag.”
Prince has been romantically linked with many women in the past – from Kim Basinger to Madonna and Carmen Electra.
