Man arrested in connection with brutal murder of popular drag queen
Detectives say they are still searching for two further suspects as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have said they arrested a man earlier this week in connection with the death of 51-year-old Torrance Cheeves – a popular Texas drag performer.
San Antonio police took 20-year-old Johnathan Terrell Henderson-Houston into custody on Monday and have identified him as one of the three suspects.
Henderson-Houston, who was already in jail for an unrelated crime, has been charged with murder.
However, the police do not think that Henderson-Houston acted alone. Investigators said they are continuing to search for two other individuals they believe were involved in the murder.
Cheeves – who performed under the stage name Miss Whoochie – was stabbed to death in August this year.
The popular performer’s body was discovered face-down inside of his home – the back door of his house had been open and the property had been left in a state of “complete disarray”.
Following his death, the medical examiners discovered that the cause of Cheeves’ death was a stab wound to the neck.
Police said that three individuals entered Cheeves’ home on the night of August 26 around 8:30 p.m.
The intruders preceded to stab their victim to death, the fled the scene of the crime, before returning later to steal the deceased’s property.
The investigation continues, with police stating that they are hopeful that more arrests may follow, due to leads provided to them by Henderson-Houston.
Cheeves was a popular drag act on the San Antonio drag, although only dressed in drag once a year as part of Chili Queens, an HIV awareness fundraiser, during Fiesta.
