Dame Edna creator labels Caitlyn Jenner a ‘publicity-seeking ratbag’
The comedian attacked the reality star as he supported close friend Germaine Greer.
Barry Humphries, the comedian behind the beloved Dame Edna Everage, has attacked Caitlyn Jenner in a recent interview.
The comic said he agreed with his close friend Germaine Greer – who sparked controversy recently by declaring trans women are “men who believe that they are women and have themselves castrated.”
“I agree with Germaine! You’re a mutilated man, that’s all,” he told The Telegraph.
“Self-mutilation, what’s all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner – what a publicity-seeking ratbag.
“It’s all given the stamp – not of respectability, but authenticity or something,” he added.
“If you criticise anything you’re racist or sexist or homophobic.”
He echoed the sentiments of his fellow Australian Greer – who has a long history of making transphobic comments.
She has previously claimed that “lopping off your d**k and wearing a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman” and has accused Jenner of transitioning so she could steal attention from her Kardashian co-stars.
Cardiff University faced calls to ban Greer from speaking at the University due to her transphobic views, igniting a national debate on the subject of freedom of speech.
Jenner has faced a tumultuous year since coming out. Aside from transphobia, she has struggled with a tumbling reality show audience, while pushing for trans rights.
The former Olympian has come under fire for her conservative views – attempting to explain her past opposition to same-sex marriage in an interview with Ellen.
In addition, she has been repeatedly accused of being transphobic herself and of living a life that is not representative of the majority of trans men and women.
She also recently met and prayed with with a pastor who led the charge in repealing an LGBT rights law, provoking an angry response from LGBT fans.
