Uber suspends driver who tried to kick out lesbians for kissing
Uber has suspended a London driver who attempted to eject a lesbian couple from his car for kissing.
The London-based woman, who asked not to be named, tweeted Uber on Monday evening saying the driver had attempted to throw them out during a trip.
She wrote: “Disgusting aggressive driver said he ‘did not allow’ my girlfriend and I to kiss in the back of his cab…
Going on, the woman said the driver “then proceeded to pull his cab over and ask us to get out when we refused to comply…
“When told we would report him, he didn’t seem in the least bit bothered so please do advise how you would deal with this?” she went on.
Uber confirmed to the Standard that the driver had been suspended.
An Uber Spokesperson told PinkNews: “Uber celebrates diversity and does not tolerate any form of discrimination whatsoever. Uber prides itself on providing the highest quality, safest and most convenient service, so we take any incident where we fall short very seriously.
“We have been in contact with this rider to offer our full support and find out exactly what happened. Whenever there is a serious incident it’s our policy to suspend the partner-driver in question while we investigate.”
It is not the first such alleged incident involving an Uber driver.
Back in September, two male friends were allegedly shouted at and thrown out of a car after sharing a peck on the lips during a recent journey.
In May, PinkNews exclusively revealed that a London Uber driver had been suspended – after kicking out a gay passenger because of his sexuality.
Neil Shah had been enjoying a night out in Soho – but on his way home with friends, was ordered out of an Uber taxi after holding hands and kissing in the back of the car.
A separate couple, Corey Watts and his boyfriend Jordan Sloan, said that they were kicked out an Uber after they kissed earlier this year.
The same week, another couple were told by an Uber driver that it “was against the Uber rules” for them to hug – and were subjected to homophobic comments.
