SNL team lampoon Oscars diversity scandal in hilarious sketch (VIDEO)
Saturday Night Live has weighed into the #OscarsSoWhite outrage during its latest episode.
In a sketch set at the Screen Awards Guild, Cecily Strong reveals the Best Actor nominees – played by Taran Killam, Pete Davidson, Beck Bennett, Bobby Moynihan and Jon Rudnitsky – all regulars of the popular comedy show… and all white.
As the announcements are listed, it becomes clear that the all-white, straight, male nominees have been nominated for ridiculously tenuous roles over their leading, black co-stars.
The roles include “White Man With Camera” in a story about African child soldiers and librarian Dave in a biopic about Thurgood Marshall – the first African-American Supreme Court justice.
“And the Best Actor is – oh my God, I knew it. It’s a five-way tie: all the white guys,” announces Strong.
The video ends with an added dig at the all-male director line-up – revealing the next gong will be the award for “Best Male Director”.
In a controversial week for Hollywood, a number of stars have announced their decision to boycott the Oscars due to lack of diversity in this year’s nominees.
The boycott comes after it was revealed that none of the nominees for best actor, best actress, best supporting actor or best supporting actress are performers of colour.
In another bizarre twist to the story, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith were accused of being closeted, gay hypocrites after announcing they too would not attend the ceremony.
Alexis Arquette blasted the pair, claiming that Will Smith’s first marriage ended because he was caught having sex with another man.
However, Smith’s first wife was quick to rubbish the claims against her ex-husband, made by the trans actress on social media.
Last night’s episode of SNL also saw Tina Fey reprise her role as Sarah Palin – after she announced her support for Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy last week.
