Michael B Jordan pats director on the head and gets abuse for ‘looking gay’
Michael B Jordan got homophobic abuse… for patting another man on the head.
The Creed actor posed for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine this week, as part of a joint interview with the film’s director Ryan Coogler.
The pair have worked closely on 2013 film Fruitvale Station as well as recent Oscar-nominated release Creed, a sequel to the Rocky franchise.
However, despite spending much of the past five years working together, fans spouted homophobic abuse about the Vanity Fair shoot image, which features Jordan patting Coogler on the head, as they both look into the camera.
One wrote: “Of the hundreds of photos taken during a photo shoot.. This is the effeminate image the Vanity Fair photo editor selected to display to the world. No self respecting heterosexual males pose like this naturally”
Another claimed: “I’m slappin [sic] any man that tries to rub my head.”
The Outmost picked out some favourites:
Other commenter vented that they were “selling ya [sic] soul” by posing for the pictures.
Yet another posted: “It looks a lil gay to me… I wouldn’t wanna be touched and pose for a pic like this. I’m a grown man, not a homophobe… Jus would be uncomfortable with a shot like this.”
Despite the mixed reaction, LGBT people praised the two men for willing to appear in the pose.
One commenter wrote: “You literally just smashed through every possible notion of black anti-queer prejudice that there is. I’m saving these powerful nuggets, adding them to my war chest, and using as necessary.”
Another joked: “F**k all the negative bullshit, When Creed 2 coming out? Lol.”
