There is something pretty surprising about Dave Franco’s ‘Bad Neighbours 2’ character
There is something possibly a little surprising about Dave Franco’s character in Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising.
No, not that the character is into men, really – it’s that he’s engaged!
Franco’s character, Pete, was featured in the first film alongside Zac Efron as Teddy, as well as Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
According to Yahoo!, the revelation that Pete is queer is “welcome”, but maybe “surprising twist for the sequel to the testosterone-fueled comedy.”
Franco says: “I was so excited…Even though I’m not on screen for a significant amount of time, hopefully it will be very memorable. And of course I was excited to try something new with the character while still maintaining his essence.”
The film’s director Nicholas Stoller has hinted at Pete’s coming out while the sequel was still in pre-production.
He previously referred to a scene in which Teddy allows Pete to run away from a crime scene. Pete says “I love you” before running off.
“Clearly, we’re playing with the homoerotic tension there, and I was like, ‘He should just be gay,’” Stoller said.
“Then in this one, it came up again. [Co-writer] Evan Goldberg brought it up, and he said, ‘I think he should be gay, and part of [his arc] should be the proposal.’ It was kind of all of us coming to the same conclusion.”
‘Bad Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising’ (‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ in the US) is currently being shown in cinemas.
Seth Rogen earlier this week said the 2007 hit comedy Superbad ‘glamourised’ homophobic language ‘in a lot of ways.’
