Nyle DiMarco crowned winner of Dancing with the Stars
The genderfluid model was a fan favourite throughout the series.
Nyle DiMarco – the deaf supermodel who previously rose to prominence winning America’s Next Top Model – has been crowned the winner of Dancing With The Stars.
DiMarco took the title at the end of Tuesday night’s season finale, following a series of show stopping routines.
“This is such an amazing feeling,” Peta Murgatroyd, his partner, said. “I owe everything to [DiMarco].”
The pair’s final dance was followed by an emotional exchange with judge Carrie Ann Inaba interacted with the model in sign language.
“That was a beautiful way to end the season,” she said.
“But Nyle, I just want to say something to you. because you’ve spoken to us so eloquently in our language of dance, I want to say this to you and I hope I get it right.”
She then stood up and said, ‘Thank you for sharing what’s in your heart’ in sign language – leaving DiMarco in tears.
After being announced the winner, DiMarco – who also featured in the show’s first same sex dance routine – took to social media to celebrate.
“I can’t believe it! We won the mirror ball!” he wrote.
He added that his win was dedicated to the “70 million deaf people in the world”.
DiMarco also opened up about his relationship with his pro-dancer partner.
“The first week we worked together, she was already starting to learn my language and my culture,” he said.
“She was very curious. She did the right thing right out of the chute.”
The model came out as sexually fluid last year during a casual chat with one of his Twitter followers.
