Neo-Nazi thugs pelt pro-gay vegan café with sausages
Far-right thugs have attacked a vegan café with sausages in Georgia – because they serve gay people.
The attack took place in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, in Eastern Europe.
The vegan Kiwi Café, which is popular with the local LGBT community, found itself set upon by Neo-Nazis, who had allegedly asked passers by about any pro-gay businesses to target.
The group entered the Café wearing sausages around their necks and carrying slabs of meat on skewers, which they threw at customers – before attacking staff and patrons.
The attackers fled before police arrive, and some of the victims sustained minor injuries.
A statement from the Café owners described it as an “anti-vegan provocative action”, adding: “This people were neo-Nazis, participants of Bergmann movement, who support fascist ideas.”
They added: “In spite of the situation and everyday negative attitude to us and other people, who visit us, café is continuing to work and is ready to accept all costumers regardless of nationality, race, appearance, age, gender, sexual orientation, religious views, etc. Equality is the most important thing for us.”
“During these hard times you can support us just by visiting our café, we will be very grateful if you come to show everyone that here are a lot of us who care about the issue!”
The city’s Pride march has faced repeated violence in the past few years. The march has faced shocking violence from far-right thugs.
The European Court of Human Rights previously ruled that the country failed to protect marchers from violence in 2012.
The court ruled: “Given the attitudes in parts of Georgian society towards sexual minorities, the authorities knew or should have known of the risk of tensions associated with the march.
“They had thus been under an obligation to use any means possible to ensure that it could be held peacefully.”
