Grand Theft Auto V’s virtual Pride parade will be made invincible – to avoid gamers using it to massacre gay people.
It was revealed earlier this month that Trevor, Michael and Franklin will be getting their Pride on in a new unofficial expansion to the popular game.
Developed by Stockholm Pride, the unofficial GTA mod brings a virtual Pride celebration to the streets of Los Santos – complete with floats, rainbow flags and clothing, and a huge cheering crowd.
Even the Los Santos Blimp is getting in the mood, displaying the slogan ‘Love is in the air’.
According to a trailer released by the creators, it’s looking pretty epic:
Sadly, the Los Santos Pride mod is only available for PC users and not on consoles – but is free to download online.
Some commenters had raised fears that the mod could have unintended effects, with people using the in-game guns and deadly weapons to murder the virtual Pride participants.
However, developers have confirmed they have altered the mod to prevent such virtual massacres.
In real life, one girl was murdered in a deadly attack during last year’s Jerusalem Pride parade – while Prides in Eastern Europe are routinely set upon by violent thugs.
Christian Valtersson, president at Stockholm Pride said: “We’ve made the parade indestructible. Not to moralize, but rather to show that love will always triumph over hate.
“The message of love and equality is always needed and we are happy that players get to host their own Los Santos Pride Parade.”
