A trans woman robbed a bank to get back into prison
A trans woman robbed a bank so she could go back to prison and get off the streets.
Linda Thompson, 59, a homeless trans woman living in Wyoming, robbed a bank in order to get back into prison and off the streets.
On July 27th Ms Thompson walked into a bank and handed one of the tellers a note written on a piece of cardboard saying, “I have a gun. Give me all of your money.”
The teller quickly handed over thousands of dollars.
However, once Ms Thompson exited the bank she did not run or try to hide, she began throwing some of the money into the air and giving cash to strangers walking by.
She remained in front of the bank and waited patiently for police to arrive.
Lt Nathan Busek said he found Ms Thompson with a large sum of money when he arrived at the bank.
“[He] asked Thompson what was going on, and Thompson replied, ‘I just robbed the bank, I want to go back to prison’,” said an FBI spokesperson.
In June, Ms Thompson was released from an all-women’s correctional facility in Oregon, where she was serving a sentence for second-degree robbery.
It apparently had taken years for her to get into the facility that corresponded with her gender identity.
She told authorities that since her release, she couldn’t get a room at a homeless shelter and had been attacked in a city park – leaving her with facial fractures.
Ms Thompson also said she did not want to be released from custody because she wouldn’t do well on parole.
