Homophobe Rick Santorum hired as Trump adviser

Extreme homophobe Rick Santorum has been appointed as an adviser to Donald Trump.

A two-time loser in the race for President, Santorum is one of the most anti-LGBT Republicans, insisting that homosexuality is a condition that can be cured.

The Republican also claimed that same-sex couples getting married in the US will “disrupt the foundation of the world”, and pledged to void the marriages of thousands of loving gay couples if elected President.

Though his own campaign flopped, the frothy Republican has been handed a key role advising Donald Trump on faith issues this week.

An official statement from Trump confirmed Santorum’s appointment to advise him on issues of “religious liberty” in a bid to court the Catholic vote.

Mr Trump also pledged to sign a law to permit religious discrimination against LGBT people.

He said:  “Religious liberty is enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution. It is our first liberty and provides the most important protection in that it protects our right of conscience.

“Activist judges and executive orders issued by Presidents who have no regard for the Constitution have put these protections in jeopardy.

“If I am elected president and Congress passes the First Amendment Defense Act, I will sign it to protect the deeply held religious beliefs of Catholics and the beliefs of Americans of all faiths.”

Santorum won’t be a lonely voice in advising Trump. Aside from the other plethora of anti-LGBT advisers on his faith advisory board, Trump recently confirmed Michele Bachmann is advising him on policy.

She became well-known while a congresswoman for her often-surreal arguments and extreme opposition to gay rights.

She claimed in 2014: “I think [gays] want to abolish age of consent laws, which means we will do away with statutory rape laws so that adults would be able to freely prey on little children sexually. That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today.”

A 2011 investigation found a religious ‘counselling centre’ owned by Ms Bachmann attempts gay ‘cure’ therapy and aims to repress “homosexual urges”. Her husband, Marcus Bachmann, ran the service.

Ms Bachmann last year claimed that God would destroy America because of the “sin-sick” culture of same-sex marriage –
