Culture Club singer Boy George will not return to The Voice after the show’s move to ITV, it has been confirmed.

The legendary pop icon took up a role as a coach on the BBC reality series earlier this year, in a “shake-up” that saw long-running coach Sir Tom Jones dropped.

As the show prepares for its first series since being snagged by rival broadcaster ITV, Boy George had hinted he would not be returning.

The new panel was confirmed this week, with Sir Tom Jones returning to the show in place of Boy George.

Will.i.am is staying on as a coach, while the show welcomes newcomers Jennifer Hudson and Gavin Rossdale.

Boy George confirmed previously: “Not doing this season of ‘The Voice on ITV but sending [Will] my love. Watch this space for what I am up to! :)”

Sir Tom says: “I’m looking forward to returning to my big red chair on The Voice UK. I had some great times on the show and I can’t wait to again discover and help some brand new talent. And of course be back with my pal will.i.am.”

During his time on the show, Boy George stirred headlines when fellow coach Paloma Faith spoke about performing with Prince.

He quipped: “Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince!”
