Hillary Clinton’s gay ‘nephew’ wrote a beautiful note about how his ‘Aunt Hillary’ helped him come out
Hillary Clinton’s close family friend has posted a sincere note on Facebook about his relationship with the presidential nominee.
Colin Ebeling’s mother, Betsy, was childhood best friends with Clinton and they went to school together.
They met as sixth graders at an elementary school in Chicago, and graduated together in 1965.
Their friendship has lasted though, and the Democrat runner has remained a part of their lives – sharing kindness and love with Ebling and his family.
In the note, Ebeling writes of the influence Clinton has had on his life and how accepting she has been of him and his husband.
Ebeling illustrates his close relationship to his ‘Aunt Hillary’, and describes her as “a warm, funny lady who taught me how copious amounts of hot sauce on your scrambled eggs will keep you health.”
He goes on to explain how Clinton has been supportive for years. “She congratulated me when I came out of the closet, when I got my pilot’s license, when I married my husband and, when we adopted our baby girl.”
Ebeling met his husband, Will Collyer, during a production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Ebeling directed the show, and Collyer was on the cast. The couple married in 2011 after dating for 12 years.
“Hillary has included me and my husband in countless events over the years and always greets us with warmth and sincere affection,” he writes.
“Several times, we’ve had the privilege to sit down with her and swap stories and, let me tell you, this woman can tell one hell of a story. Her dry wit rivals some of the best sit-com writers I’ve had the pleasure to work with.”
He stressed the importance of voting for his ‘Aunt’, who he called a “role model” who has always been “humble, personable and kind.”
Ebeling writes that the woman he knows is entirely different to the Clinton portrayed by Donald Trump, who compared her to “the devil” and threatened to throw her in prison.
“To see Hillary portrayed as an evil, conniving criminal is baffling to me,” Ebling writes.
“When you cast your vote for Hillary, I just want you to know you’re backing not only the most qualified presidential candidate in history but a real person, a woman who values family, friendship and service to her fellow Americans above all else.”
“You’ll be sending a message to my daughter that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.”
