Kate McKinnon sung a rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ for her final Hillary Clinton solo (VIDEO)
Kate McKinnon took to the SNL stage as Hillary Clinton one last time this week in a post-election character departure.
McKinnon didn’t use the opportunity to crack jokes, but made a fitting tribute with a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ – an apt choice of song as the 82-year-old died this week.
McKinnon wore a replica of the white suit Clinton wore during the third presidential debate.
The comedian teared up as she sung the lyrics which seemed all too familiar: “I did my best/it wasn’t much/ I told the truth/I didn’t come to fool you and even though it all went wrong I’ll stand before the lord of song with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah.”
McKinnon ended the song by looking into the camera with tears welling up in her eyes and said “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.”
Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump didn’t make it into the cold open which has raised the question that he may appear in the future, although he was only meant to be appear on the show for the duration of the election.
The gay comic won an Emmy award this year for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series for her work on the hit show, Saturday Night Live.
Talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show the comedian revealed that she doesn’t remember the evening that she won her Emmy, and doesn’t know where the actual award is.
McKinnon doesn’t recall thanking Hillary Clinton or Ellen Degeneres in her speech, both of which congratulated her on the award.
