Twitter users are upset about “tactless” BBC Radio 1 game
Twitter users have expressed their concern over a BBC Radio 1 segment which aired this morning.
On the breakfast show, host Nick Grimshaw, accompanied by comedian David Walliams played ‘I’m a lady’, a game where they guess if callers are biologically male or female.
The game, of course, was modelled off Walliams’ “I’m a lady” catchphrase. Grimshaw invited listeners to call in and Walliams would guess if they were a lady or not.
“I’ve been caught out by this a lot of times over the years,” Walliams said before the game began. “You wake up in the morning and you’re in for a surprise.”
Naturally, this caused a bit of a stir online as some users pointed out the game was “not funny” and “could upset those transitioning and offend those who don’t identify as a specific gender”.
This isn’t the first time Walliams, who is married to supermodel Lara Stone, has caused a stir. Earlier this year, Walliams upset members of the LGBT community by appearing to ‘go after’ a half-naked acrobat on Britain’s Got Talent.
“I despise @davidwalliams & his tired faux camp ‘am I arent I’ gay bulls**t. Being gay or camp is normal life not a lame joke to be used BGT,” one user wrote.
Another added, “Am I the only one who doesn’t think David Walliams is remotely funny? This pretending to be gay crap is getting monotonous now.”
