WATCH: Hari Nef becomes the first trans model to feature in a major makeup brand’s TV ad
Model Hari Nef has become the first trans person to feature in a makeup company’s TV advertising campaign.
L’Oreal’s ‘Your Skin, Your Story’ campaign featured a variety of men and women from various ethnicities to represent the 33 shades that will make up the True Match foundation range.
The advert was first shown in the US during the Golden Globes, where viewers were treated to Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds making out with Spider-Man.
Discussing the campaign, company spokesman Tim Coolican said the company wanted to reflect how society had changed and the various types of people that use their products.
“L’Oréal Paris is a brand fueled by a mission to empower everyone to own and embrace their individual beauty and intrinsic worth,” he said.
“By featuring a diverse blend of individuals and illustrating their individual skin stories, our new True Match campaign celebrates the power and beauty of feeling comfortable in your own skin.”
Cosmetic companies have been increasingly diversifying their models in recent years.
Recently, Manny Gutierrez was made the first male model of Maybelline.
At the start of the year, Hari sang a cover of Blue Velvet for Love Magazine.
James Charles became CoverGirl’s first male model last year. Watch the video of him on Ellen below.
