Rick Santorum, who claimed gay marriage would destroy the economy, hired as CNN pundit
Extreme homophobe Rick Santorum has been hired as a CNN pundit.
A two-time loser in the race for President, Santorum is one of the most anti-LGBT Republicans, insisting that homosexuality is a condition that can be cured.
The Republican also claimed that same-sex couples getting married in the US will “disrupt the foundation of the world”, and pledged to void the marriages of thousands of loving gay couples if elected President.
The frothy Republican, who held a key role advising Donald Trump on faith issues during his campaign, was signed up by CNN this week.
He confirmed: “Excited to announce that I’ve joined the CNN Team as a Senior Political Commentator! Be sure to tune in to CNN!”
Back in 2012 Santorum claimed that equal marriage would destroy churches, families and “disintegrate” marriage. He said at the time that legalising same-sex marriage would “destroy the institutions of America’s foundation… and destroy the American family.”
He also claimed that same-sex marriage would damage the economy by destroying families, and claimed that homosexuality was “a choice”.
In 2015 he confirmed that he would not attend the same-sex wedding of a family member or loved one, saying, “As a person of my faith, that would be something that would be a violation of my faith.
“I would love them and support them but I would not participate in that ceremony.”
And it is not just gay people Mr Santorum has an issue with – he has also attacked Caitlyn Jenner’s transition.
He said: “If Bruce Jenner says he’s woman then I’m not going to argue with him. I know what anatomically and biologically he is. That doesn’t change by himself identifying himself.”
