As President Trump was inaugurated, Tim Kaine married a lesbian couple
As Trump celebrated his inauguration, former VP hopeful Tim Kaine had slightly different plans.
After he attended the swearing in of Trump on 20 January, Kaine sneaked off to officiate the wedding of a lesbian couple.
His running mate Hillary Clinton stayed behind to attend an official inauguration dinner, which was noted by Trump.
The couple in question, Dea Jones and Shea McLeod, had not planned to get married yet.
After going through a commitment ceremony in 2002, two years after meeting, they decided to pull up the wedding when Trump became President.
“We hadn’t been in a hurry to make it legal,” McLeod told Mashable.
Kaine is a friend of Jones’ brother.
Dea Jones said: “How wonderful it would be on January 20th to offer love and light by Sharon and I committing ourselves to each other.”
Kaine, who had never officiated at a same-sex wedding previously, proudly tweeted about the event, and a pictre of the ceremony.
He wrote: “Hitched! Congrats to Dea and Sharon. Was honored to officiate their wedding tonight.”
