Orlando shooter’s wife helped scout locations, prosecutors claim
The wife of Orlando massacre shooter Omar Mateen helped him scout locations including Disney World, prosecutors have claimed.
Noor Salman was refused bail last week in her initial court appearance and was referred by the judge for psychiatric evaluation.
She has been charged with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting her husband.
According to the federal prosecutor Sara Sweeney, Salman watched her husband leave the house on the night of the attack with a gun and backpack full of ammunition.
It’s also claimed she was asked by Mateen what would have a bigger impact the mall at Disney or a gay club.
Salman has admitted she “knew when he left he was going to commit the attack”, having initially denied she was involved.
Pleading not guilty, Salman’s defence lawyer Charles Swift said that her confession was inadmissible as it was taken without legal representation during an 18-hour interrogation.
He added that she was abused by her husband and knew nothing of his plans.
In January, harrowing photos from inside the Pulse nightclub were released for the first time.
If found guilty, she could face up to life imprisonment.
The case against her continues.
