Melissa McCarthy made a killer return as Sean Spicer and was even better than before
Melissa McCarthy staged the anticipated return as press secretary Sean Spicer on SNL last night, and she completely nailed it once again.
McCarthy took the cold open spot and served up double helpings of a hilarious press conference.
Usually, cold open spots are left for regular SNL characters but the actor earned her place after being a hit during last weeks show.
The actor, who recently appeared in the new Ghostbusters remake, took the stage as Spicer and kicked off the shenanigans by announcing that he is “calm now” and would “remain came as long as you send of…” he said before stopping himself.
“I’m not going to do that, because that is the old Spicy. And this is the new Spicy.”
Spicer went on to try and read foreign leader’s names, while completely failing before taking questions from the ‘eager’ press.
One asked what Trump’s plans were if federal judges were to continue blocking the Muslim ban.
“You’re testing me, big guy,” he answered. “If the appeals court won’t do what’s right, President Trump will see them in court. Specifically, the People’s Court.”
Spicer was aided by his “dollies” to demonstrate the vetting immigrants would face to reporters in the room. Barbie could pass through TSA, but the Moana doll would not be able to.
He went on to mention the underreported terrorist attacks, including “The Bowling Green Massacre — not the Kellyanne one, the real one,” before attacking Nordstrom’s decision to drop Ivanka Trump’s clothing line.
He showed off a $39.99 bangle and some leopard-print heels from the line, as if he were in a advert for the products.
Kate McKinnon also made an appearance, this time as newly appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
“I do want to say I appreciate the fierce debate around my nomination,” McKinnon’s Sessions said.
“Elizabeth Warren came at me like a porcupine, but then my friend Mitch McConnell swooped in like an alligator and bit her head off.”
Before Spicer could sweep him off the stage, Sessions added, “We all know there are two kinds of crime, regular and black.”
The disastrously funny session wrapped up with Spicer once again charging at reporters with his press stand, which was motorised this time around, and using a leaf blower to “blow away the dishonesty”.
A recent SNL sketch saw Alec Baldwin return to his role as Trump as the president made out with Vladimir Putin, FBI & Ku Klux Klan.
