Sir Patrick Stewart thought he was circumcised for most of his life
Sir Patrick Stewart appeared on the Graham Norton show last night, and told a hilarious story about how he thought he was circumcised.
The 76-year-old actor revealed that he had spent most of his life thinking he had undergone the procedure because his mother had told him so.
However, the star found out that he wasn’t after his wife told him, and a doctor confirmed it.
“One night with my wife. We were talking about stuff, I mentioned my circumcision and she said, ‘You’re not circumcised!’
“I said, ‘What do you mean? That’s ridiculous, I should know. All my life my mother has told me it was fashionable at the time.’”
Despite his wife’s revelation, Sir Patrick had the fact re-affirmed the next day when he had an annual doctor’s check up.
“I happened to be seeing my doctor the next day for a check-up so while he was down there I said, ‘By the way, my wife and I have had a little disagreement, I am circumcised aren’t I?’
“He took a closer look and said ‘Not! I am Jewish and definitely know the difference!’” the actor exclaimed.
The anecdote had Sir Patrick in fits of laughter alongside his former co-star Hugh Jackman who appeared on the talk show.
However, he quickly became embarrassed, putting his head in his hands and exclaiming “oh no, my grandchildren will be watching this!”
Sir Ian McKellen also appeared on the show with Sir Patrick, and pulled off a hilarious impression of Maggie Smith.
