Robbers in drag attack staff and steal hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of jewellery
Two men in drag have robbed a jewellery store at gunpoint.
The thieves, who disguised themselves with makeup, wigs and dresses, took hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from the shop in south-east Florida.
Security footage shows the assailants strolling in and talking to two female shop workers in high-pitched voices, before drawing their weapons and leaping over the counter towards the women.
They dragged one employee along the floor and held the other in a chokehold before proceeding to empty the shelves and safe of jewellery, watches and cash in the space of 15 minutes.
One of the women who was attacked during the robbery told local TV station abc13 that the thieves took “everything. Nothing was left on the shelves.”
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the pair, though. Upon discovering the exit door was locked, one of the men tried to jump over the counter to get to the switch to open it – and tripped spectacularly.
The two men have also been accused of robbing a sandwich and check-cashing store in the area.
It is not clear whether the robbers are actual drag artists or dressing up as women to hide their identities, but they certainly went to extreme lengths to change their appearances.
The owner of Sam’s Subs and Check Cashing told abc13 that the men who robbed his store “had dresses on; they had wigs; they had base makeup, foundation. From what my employees told me, they looked like women.”
Local authorities are offering a $3,000 reward for tips which lead to the perpetrators being arrested.
