Orlando to mark Pulse massacre anniversary with ‘A Day Of Love and Kindness’
The City of Orlando will mark the upcoming anniversary of the tragic shooting in the Pulse gay nightclub by holding A Day Of Love & Kindness.
49 innocent people died in the shooting in Orlando’s gay Pulse nightclub last June, and many more were injured – making the incident the biggest mass shooting in US history.
The first anniversary of the terrible event is approaching on June 12 this year, and ahead of the date, the city announced it would mark with an event celebrating love and kindness.
An event said: “The City of Orlando and Orange County Government, in collaboration with Pulse, have jointly designated June 12, 2017, as ‘Orlando United Day – A Day of Love and Kindness’.
“June 12 will be dedicated to honoring the memory of the 49 innocent Pulse victims, supporting survivors and recognizing the compassion and love that was displayed by the Central Florida community following the tragedy.
“Orlando United Day is an opportunity to join with others in Acts of Love and Kindness to continue the unity that followed the tragedy.
“Engaging in these activities on June 12 is a respectful and loving way to remember and honor the lives of those taken and to show compassion to those who need support.
“To remember the victims and honor the survivors, a number of community events and activities will take place on Monday, June 12, 2017.”
A number of events have already been announced for the festival, which will be dedicated to remembering the 49 victims.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said: “Our community will never forget the tragedy of Pulse, or the grief of those who lost loved ones, from heartbroken family and friends to survivors putting shattered lives back together, our entire community stands with you.”
Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs added: “As we prepare for the anniversary of Pulse, the world is working to honour and remember the lives we lost.
“Through a day of live and kindness dedicated to the legacy of those who perished, we will continue to cherish their memories.”
