Caitlyn Jenner: I have changed my mind on same-sex marriage
Caitlyn Jenner has had quite the u-turn on the issue of same-sex marriage.
Jenner had previously said she was on an evolving journey on the issue – but has now let us all know that journey is complete.
“I am 100% behind gay marriage – let’s clear that up,” she adamantly told Diane Sawyer.
What a relief.
She previously complained said she was “alienated” by Ellen DeGeneres over her reluctant stance on same-sex marriage.
In her memoir, released April 25, she writes: “I believed, as anyone would, that that was exactly what she wanted to talk about – my progression in terms of changing attitude over the years.
“I am for it… I did not initially understand why marriage was so important, influenced no doubt by my own personal experience. Now I do, and it’s a wonderful thing to see.”
In the interview with Diane Sawyer (clip below), Jenner said her children still refer to her as “Dad” and explained that they have found the transition difficult.
She said: “Some [of the children] I have remained very close to. A couple of them … I’m a little more distant.
“I have to admit, I’ll sit here and wonder, ‘Is it because of my transitioning? Or is it because their life is so busy that they don’t call, like, all the time?’”
In the interview with Diane Sawyer, Jenner also discussed what her children thought about her Vanity Fair cover: “I know my kids, they thought, ‘You know what, it’s a little too much,’”
“But, from my standpoint,” she added. “I had suffered for 65 years.”
“To have a beautiful shot of my authentic self was important and [I wanted] the shock value.
“I wanted to end the old Bruce, my old life, and that picture did it.”

Jenner told Ellen in 2015: “I have to admit — I remember 10 years ago, 15 years ago, whenever the whole gay marriage issue came up — at first I was not for it.”
“I’m a traditionalist. I’m older than most people in your audience.
“I, kind of, like tradition and it’s always been a man and a woman.
“I was thinking, ‘I don’t quite get it’. But as time has gone on — I think like a lot of people on this issue — I’ve really changed my thinking.
“I don’t ever want to stand in front of anyone’s happiness.”
But Jenner writes in her memoir that she thinks her words had been taken out of context.
“This discussion further alienated me from members of the LGBTQ community,” she writes.
“Ellen’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where in my mind she even more emphatically took what I said out of context, made it go viral.”
The Olympian will also reveal that she has undergone gender reassignment surgery in the new memoir.
The 67-year-old reveals that she underwent the surgery in the new memoir, The Secrets of my Life.
She says: “I just want to have all the right parts. I am also tired of tucking the damn thing in all the time.
“The surgery was a success, and I feel not only wonderful, but liberated.”
Adding: “I am going to have an enthusiasm for life that I have not had in 39 years since the Olympics, almost two-thirds of my life.”
RadarOnline.com reveals the book excerpt, in which she says she wanted to open up about the surgery in the hope that fans will stop asking intrusive questions about the process.
“You want to know, so now you know. Which is why this is the first time, and the last time, I will ever speak of it,” she writes.
She works on the memoir with Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the profile on Jenner when she came out as transgender in Vantiy Fair.
According to reports, she has been given a $4 million advance for the memoir.
Earlier this year, rumours circulated that Jenner is due to join the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Her own reality show, I Am Cait, was cancelled be the E! network after just two seasons, when ratings fell significantly in its second year.
It comes after she appeared to withdraw her support for President Trump.
The trans reality TV star posted a video on her Twitter page, saying: “From one Republican to another, this is a disaster.”
She then added: “You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”

Jenner had previously given her support to Trump, and argued he could be much better for the LGBT community than people gave him credit.
However following the decision to officially reverse Obama’s transgender bathroom protections she has changed her mind.
Jenner had also offered herself as a trans ambassador for the Trump administration.
