Cam and Mitch to return on screen for Modern Family seasons 9 and 10
Modern Family has been renewed for two more seasons and the cast have apparently scored massive pay rises to make it happen.
Gay actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitch) and Eric Stonestreet (Cam), are among the returning stars, along with their fellow adult colleagues Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara.
Each actor has apparently negotiated a $150,000 pay rise per episode, up from their current $350,000 season 8 episode rate to $500,000 for each of the 22 episodes of season 9 and season 10.
The stars will also get “a little piece of the series’ back end”, according to Deadline.
Negotiations with the younger actors in the cast will begin soon.
Tyler Ferguson confirmed that he would be returning for at least two new seasons and talked up the prospect of spending all that extra time with his favourite ‘fake family’.
The show revolves around the life of three very different families, including Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker’s same-sex couple.
Modern Family has always touched upon LGBT issues, including same-sex parent adoption, homophobia and gay marriage.
At the end of season five, Mitch and Cam finally tied the knot on screen after adopting Lily, a Vietnamese child.
The show has won five Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series and is ABC’s highest rating comedy show.
“We are beyond thrilled that we get to spend more time with these characters, these amazing actors, our ridiculously talented writers and our incredible crew – all of whom are like family to us,” said show co-creator Steve Levitan.

Channing Dungey, ABC president, added: “Modern Family has been the centrepiece of our comedy brand for 8 seasons and we are thrilled to have it on our schedule for two more years.”
Modern Family perviously made headlines for casting a transgender child actor and was praised by Michelle Obama for helping people change the way they see the world.
Speaking about Mitch and Cam, the former First Lady said: “They become part of who you are.
“You share their pains. You understand their fears. They make you laugh, and they change how you see the world.”
Modern Family actor Ty Burrell has said in the past that the show was ‘helping normalise’ gay marriage.
