Bob the Drag Queen slams rumours that RuPaul’s Drag Race copied Lip Sync Battle
Bob the Drag Queen has slammed rumours and accusations that the Season 9 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race copied TV show Lip Sync Battle.
The season 8 winner hit out at the rumours suggesting that Lip Sync Battle, which is hosted by Chrissy Teigen and LL Cool J, was copied.
Talking to TMZ, Bob the Drag Queen said that in reality the rumours should be reversed.
She explained that if anything, Lip Sync Battle had copied the format of RuPaul’s Drag Race as it only premiered when Drag Race was already into its seventh season.
She said: “Do I think Lip Sync Battle is influenced by drag queens? Yes, are you crazy of course it is!
“Lip Sync Battle is a direct pull from Drag Race and drag culture in general. You go look at their performances and they’re basically doing Drag Race on Lip Sync Battle but instead of using drag queens and trans women they’re using Michael Cera and Channing Tatum.”
Bob added that it doesn’t take much more than common sense to draw the similarities between the two TV shows.
“Like an actual stupid person would say that Drag Race is ripping off Lip Sync Battle. It doesn’t shock me to see that people outside of the box are watching it because Drag Race is a very good show. It is great TV.”
She added that the show had been deserving recognition for a long time, but it seems only in recent years that it had been properly acknowledged.
“The show should have won an emmy a long time ago. You’re telling me that girl from Dancing with the Stars won best host over RuPaul all those years, it’s crazy.”
Bob concluded that RuPaul was one of the best TV judges around, and to compare Drag Race to Lip Sync Battle was ridiculous.
“RuPaul is literally THE host. She’s the judge jury and executioner and executive producer. I mean what more do you want,” she said.
